Unsurpassed clarity and formability are two of the hallmarks of Acrylic. Clear Acrylic even transmits a slightly larger percentage of light than glass.
Amari Plastics has a wide stock range of cast and extruded sheets, in many colours, structured versions and various smoke and opal shades. They're suitable for all kinds of applications in the advertising, construction and industrial sectors.
The material can also be used for safety screens to protect employees and customers against contamination and infection including the corona virus.
Both our Acrycast™ brand of cast acrylic and Acryglas XT™ brand of extruded acrylic posess excellent properties.

What are the main properties of Acrylic?
Acrylic is 25 times stronger than glass of the same thickness, making it much less likely to break.
Acrylic is 50% lighter than glass. This allows it to be used safely and sustainably.
The light transmission of Acrylic is 92%, so that the material transmits even more light than glass. Acrylic is weather resistant and does not yellow. It is colourfast and has a long life.
Both cast and extruded Acrylic are easy to saw, mill, laser, bend, polish and glue. Extruded Acrylic is thermoformable but slightly less stress-free than cast Acrylic.
How to identify Acrylic
Acrylic is available in different versions such as clear, opal, coloured, metallic and even with a textile inlay.
During a fire test you may identify acrylic by a yellow-blue flame. If you see blistering during a fire test, then it is extruded acrylic. If the material crackles during the fire test, it is cast acrylic.

Acrylic Signs & Graphics
Unsurpassedly clear, absolutely weatherproof and mouldable. But also available in many colours and versions and with a higher light transmission than glass.
Acrylic is one of the most versatile types of plastic and exerts a special attraction on people. This is also why acrylic is used in many applications in the advertising world.
We have an extensive program with many colours and special versions in stock.
Applications
- Neon signs
- Displays
- Screen printing
- Name and road signage
Example
Acrylic Building Plastics
As clear as glass, but about 25x stronger and many times lighter. These properties make acrylic sheets extremely suitable for many special applications in the glazing sector.
Acrylic sheets offer a safety solution in places where glass shards are absolutely undesirable; offer complete freedom of form as balustrades along stairs and can be found in many different versions for balcony glazing and balcony partitions.
We have many different thicknesses and sizes of acrylic in stock, especially for the construction sector. This means that if you order before 17:00, you will have the material cut to size at delivered the next day. We also have various coloured versions available especially for interior construction.
Applications
- Conservatory and veranda roofs
- Balcony glazing
- Stair balustrades
- Safety glazing

Acrylic Engineering Plastics
Acrylic is extremely weather resistant and the cast quality is optically pure. It is also easy to work with and well suited for constructive applications, although the impact resistance is clearly less than that of, for example, polycarbonate. Yet acrylic is no less than 25 times stronger than float glass of the same thickness.
An important application argument is the very wide delivery program in both designs and dimensions.
Acrylic is used in industry for eye glasses, liquid meters, machine shields, models and is suitable for contact with foodstuffs.
Applications
- Liquid meters
- Glazing
- Eye glasses
- Models, scale models
- Protective caps

What is the difference between Acrylic and Polycarbonate and PETG?
We often get questions about the differences between the three most commonly used transparent plastics, Polycarbonate, PETG and Acrylic. To make the most important differences clear, we have made the table below. If you would like definitive advice on which material is suitable for your application, please contact us.
Acrylic | Polyester (PETG) | Polycarbonate | |
Transparency/clarity | Excellent | High | High |
Weight | Low | Low | Low |
Strength | 30x stronger than glass | 150x stronger than glass | 250x stronger than glass |
Weather resistance | Excellent | Good | Good |
Cold bending | Low | Average | Good |
Warm bending | Good | Good | Good |
Drilling, sawing, miling | Good | Good | Good |
Printability | Good | Good | Good |
Available thickness | 2 to 100mm | 0.5 to 12mm | 1 to 12mm |
Fire class* | B2 | B1 | B1 |
*tested according to DIN 4102
If fire safety plays a role, we advise you to use a fire-retardant material. Both Polyester and Polycarbonate are fire retardant and have fire class B1. The German DIN 4102 has been drawn up by the Deutsches Institut für Normung. This institute deals with the most diverse standard topics. This classification is seen as the European standard when it comes to fire safety of products.
The following are the categories listed in order by degree of flammability:
Fire standard DIN 4102
Class | Degree of flammability |
A1 | 100% non-combustible |
A2 | 98% non-combustible |
B1 | Flame-resistant |
B2 | Normal flammability |
B3 | Highly flammable |
